Why Manchester United have been handed the perfect start

David Moyes is facing a baptism of fire at the start of the new Premier League season, which could be ideal for the club.

There’s no time for him to settle in, there’s no time for the club to adjust, they simply have to hit the ground running if they want to retain their Premier League title by the end of the season.
The fixture generator has handed Moyes matches against Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City during his first spell in charge of the current English champions which means we’ll soon find out if he’s got what it takes at Old Trafford.
In some ways it’s more positive for United because they face rivals very early on, which means some kinder fixtures further into the season.
United play well in those big games, they have the ability to create some early momentum and if they play poorly, it means they have plenty of time to recover rather than losing crucial points at the start of next spring.
What does look much kinder to United is the run-in with their last massive match coming against Liverpool in mid-March.
From that point forward they aren’t playing any teams that they will consider title threats, European threats or teams that can badly hurt them if they’re in the race for the title.
It’s also arguably more positive for David Moyes because he doesn’t have any time to think about how he will get on against Jose Mourinho and Manuel Pellegrini.
He’s literally straight into it and it’s a chance for him to prove to everyone that tactically he’s good enough to win those games but also that he’s going to have made the right decisions over signings this summer.
What will be a concern for United is the way the side started last season conceding goals left, right and centre, only being saved through the immense efficiency and productivity of the attack.
The Christmas period is also setup to allow United to cash in with the longest away trip coming against Norwich.
That’s significant because Sir Alex Ferguson was always very critical over the demands placed over his team in terms of travelling during the busy winter period and it lifts a little bit of pressure off of Moyes.
We’ll know a lot more by the end of September about what sort of team Manchester United are going to be.
It’s exciting if you’re a United supporter because if the side is up there near the top of the table, the rest of the season is laid out perfectly for the club to cash in and prove all the Moyes doubters wrong.
