Moyes' horror start: Man Utd face Chelsea, Liverpool, City

Premier League fixtures announced: new United boss faces Jose Mourinho on home debut, then Liverpool and Man City

MANCHESTER UNITED manager David Moyes has been handed a nightmare start to life at Old Trafford, with a home debut against Jose Mourinho's Chelsea, rapidly followed by a visit to Anfield and an away derby against Manchester City.
It means that United will face three of their biggest rivals in the first five matches of the season, leaving Moyes little or no room for error at the start of his first campaign.
The Premier League fixtures for 2013-14 reveal that Moyes will make his first appearance as United boss at the Liberty Stadium as the champions open their campaign against Swansea. But with three huge matches to come Sir Alex Ferguson's successor will know that he cannot afford a slip-up on the opening day.
The mouth-watering, and potentially season-defining, clash against Mourinho comes in just the second week of the season and is followed by the fixture former Everton boss Moyes probably dreaded most: Liverpool at Anfield. Then, after a relatively easy-looking match against Crystal Palace, United face their local rivals, City, at the Etihad.
New Chelsea boss Mourinho will begin his second stint as Chelsea boss with a home game against newly-promoted Hull, before leading his troops into battle at Old Trafford a week later. There is little doubt that the Special One will have earmarked that game as vital in establishing the balance of power in the Premier League. If he can establish dominance over the new United boss in the second week of the season Mourinho will believe that his side have what it takes to win the title.
Arsenal are also plunged into the thick of it early in the season. After a home game against Aston Villa and a trip to Fulham they face Spurs at the Emirates on 31 August.
Manuel Pellegrini's first match in charge of Manchester City is at home against Newcastle and his first big test will be the Manchester derby on 21 September.
Intriguingly, none of last season's top five are scheduled to play each other at the climax of the campaign in April and May. Arsenal appear to have the toughest-looking run-in, with successive games against Spurs, Chelsea and Man City in March, which could make or break their title aspirations. ·
