Red Devils are keen to get youngster on board as soon as possible.
Premier
League champions Manchester United are to step up their attempts to
bring coveted FC Barcelona midfield player Thiago Alcantara to Old
Trafford next season after the youngster’s man-of-the-match display in
the final of the European Under-21 Championship on Wednesday, reports the Sun.
New
Red Devils head coach David Moyes has actually been an admirer of the
22-year-old’s for some now and even tried to bring the youngster to
Goodison Park while the Scot was still in charge at Everton, only to be
rebuffed in his approach.
However, Moyes is said to be confident of signing the Spain
international this summer, with the playmaker’s buy-out clause in his
current contract at Camp Nou valued at just 18 million euros.
And
the United boss is believed to be even more keen to land Alcantara when
the summer transfer window reopens for business on July 1 after the
player’s sensational performance against Italy on Wednesday night in the
final of the European U21 Championship in Jerusalem.
Alcantara
netted a hat-trick as his country retained their title with a 4-2 win
over the Azzurri and on top of his 11 goals in 101 appearances for the
Catalans since 2008, has made him an even more attractive acquisition
for United.
