Thiago Alcantara may have priced himself out of a summer move to
Manchester United after he netted a hat-trick in Spain’s European
Under-21 Championship final victory over Italy.
The Spanish captain hit three first-half goals as his side retained
their title with a 4-2 victory in Jerusalem’s Teddy Stadium, joining the
senior squad in earning back-to-back European crowns.
But the Barcelona midfielder could be left ruing his heroics, with
his transfer fee now surely set to rise, possibly putting him beyond the
reach of Manchester United.
Thiago has made little secret of his desire to quit the Nou Camp this summer in pursuit of first team football.
But his original estimated value of £15m now looks a rather dated
sum, following his impressive performances on the international stage
over the past two weeks.
The 22-year-old put his side infront after just five minutes of
tonight’s final, finishing a wonderful free-flowing move with a header.
The favourites’ lead didn’t last long, as Ciro Immobile latched onto a long pass and lobbed David De Gea.
But from that point onwards, Spain exerted their authority on the
match and Thiago added two more before the break, including from a
debateable spot-kick.

There was, however, no doubting their second penalty award after
half-time, as Martin Montoya was brought down by Vasco Regini, leaving
Manchester City target Isco to slot home from the spot.
Italy did manage to pull back a second goal through Fabio Borini, but
the damage had long been done as Spain lifted yet another trophy.
