What would Thiago mean for Tom Cleverley's future?

Manchester United will now aggressively pursue the signing of Thiago Alcantara if the interest is real, but what does that mean for Tom Cleverley.

Manchester United’s forgotten midfielder Tom Cleverley will be hoping that Manchester United don’t pursue their apparent interest in Barcelona’s Thiago Alcantara.
Thiago has been unable to break the dynamic duo of Xavi and Andres Iniesta at the Nou Camp, which has led to widespread speculation of an imminent move to Old Trafford which he’s already admitted, is appealing.
That leaves Cleverley relatively out in the shadows because there is no concrete guarantee he will get a chance under David Moyes in the same way that Sir Alex Ferguson showed him some faith last season.
If United add Kevin Strootman as a bigger holding sort of midfielder then Cleverley’s position at Old Trafford quickly becomes very untenable and unclear.
United have various ways they can use him next season and Cleverley himself does have options.
He still has the potential to be a very efficient and very strong midfielder at Old Trafford so selling him will be the last considerable option for David Moyes.
That leads to the natural assumption that he’ll be loaned out, possibly to another Premier League club, which allows the player to get game time but also for United to retain him.
If his position at United is still unclear after any loan deal ends, they can then axe him at that point after they’ve examined the possibility and value in keeping him.
From the player’s point of view, at the moment he doesn’t have any reason to leave.
If United do sign the above players then he could push for a move away from the club because he’s already gone through the whole experience of being out on loan and he will want to nail down a future at a top flight club.
He could choose to snub any chance to move away from Old Trafford and fight for his place in the first team.
That’s what David Moyes will more than likely be hoping for because it ensures he doesn’t have to worry about Cleverley’s mentality.
There have been some serious questions raised over the form and consistency of Cleverley based on last season and all of that could actually be aided by the addition of more midfield talent to the club.
He could learn an awful lot about technique and various aspects of the game from Thiago which ultimately would make him a better for the club.
It’s now a case of wait and see.
