Usmanov: Rooney would be a big success at Arsenal

Gunners shareholder Alisher Usmanov feels wantaway Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney would be a ‘great success’ at Arsenal.
Arsene Wenger is looking to reinforce the squad with some high quality, expensive players this summer with Gonzalo Higuian reportedly close to agreeing a move to North London and Rooney also linked with a potential move after handing in his second transfer request in three years.

Usmanov, who owns a substantial 29.9% share in the club, has praised the England international and feels a potential move to Emirates would suit both the club and the player.
Sky sports reported the 59-year-old as stating:
He is a great player. If he comes it would be a big success for Arsenal and for Rooney also.
The Russian billionaire also gave under-fire Gunners manager Arsene Wenger his backing, citing his impressive turnout of the clubs fortunes from tenth position in December to securing fourth in the League. He added:
My point of view is that Arsene knows best. Of course, we as shareholders do point out some drawbacks in managing the club, in steering its way through.
But I believe he is a great coach and he has already proven that last season.
Rooney is far less likely acquisition than Higuain who seems destined for a transfer to the Gunners. It is inconceivable that Wenger would get his cheque book out for two big name strikers, and to be honest the club needs just one of the linked duo.
The England forward wants a role as the central striker after playing in a deeper role for United recently, however if Higuain (predominantly a centre forward) is brought in, again Rooney could play second fiddle and player an advanced central midfield role, especially with Giroud developing into a top forward.
