Chelsea to rival Manchester United in race for Spaniard

Barcelona midfielder Thiago AlcantaraChelsea are set to rival Manchester United’s interest in Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara, according to reports from The Mirror.
The Spanish U-21 international has just returned from playing a key role in his nation’s European Championship victory, during which he netted a hat-trick in the final.
This form has alerted a number of clubs from across Europe, with United initially thought to be in pole position for his signature.
However, news that his release clause has dropped to just £15m has sparked interest from Chelsea, who are keen to snatch the playmaker away from their Premier League rivals.
Thiago failed to play more than 30 minutes in 60 per cent of Barca’s league games last season, which has seen the figure needed to relieve him of his contract at the Nou Camp drop.
New Blues boss Jose Mourinho is said to see the 22-year-old as the ideal man to slot into his midfield, and create a fearsome trio behind a main striker alongside Juan Mata and Eden Hazard.
Thiago himself is also thought to be keen on a move, with the presence of Xavi, Cesc Fabregas and Andre Iniesta at Barca likely to continue to hinder his hopes of regular football.
Would Chelsea or Manchester United be the best option for Thiago Alcantara?
